Kindergarten Class in the 1940s. A junior school class in the old wooden kindergarten building ( erected in 1917). After the 1944 Education Act children were admitted to the grammar school at age 11 from Leeds junior schools. The last of the pupils who went to the kindergarten ( aged 7) had worked their way through the school by the mid-1950's. By this time the wooden annexe bulding was used only for Music classes , by the RAF section of the CCF as a Ham Radio station , and by night school for lessons in motor mechanics.
